EXPH 5160 - Resistance Training:Theory and Application


Explores the physiological characteristics of muscle, its adaptations to exercise, and training methods that can be used to produce these adaptations. Emphasizes both theory and application, with hands-on experience.

Requisites: EXPH 5140
Credit Hours: 3

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will begin writing a policy and procedures manual for a strength and conditioning facility.
  • Students will conduct library research and write a research paper on a topic in strength & conditioning.
  • Students will demonstrate use of sound nutritional practices for athletes, including supplementation and ergogenic aid use, and how to make general recommendations for an athlete in these areas.
  • Students will develop an understanding of how to develop sound training practices for athletes due to knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, bioenergetics, endocrinology, and sport psychology.
  • Students will develop training programs that maximize performance, considering many different performance factors.
  • Students will properly design a strength and conditioning facility and administer a strength and conditioning program.
  • Students will understand and describe, teach, and evaluate safe and effective exercise routines.
