GEOG 6410 - Seminar in Development: Environment and Development
The seminar examines the myriad interactions between development processes and environmental change in the developing world. Theoretical developments in political ecology provide a foundation for examining case studies. Topics include: indigenous knowledge, environmental discourses, environmental degradation, people and protected areas, environmental governance, and environmental social movements.
Requisites:
Credit Hours: 4
Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 8.0 hours.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 seminar, 1.0 research

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will develop analytical skills through participation in class discussions, careful reading of course texts, and extensive written work.
- Students will gain further expertise on a topic of interest to them through an extensive written review of academic literature within human-environment geography.
- Students will master and critically evaluate contemporary theoretical, epistemological, and methodological approaches to environment-development research in the developing world.
