ME 5950 - Introduction to Kinetic Theory and Statistical Thermodynamics Kinetic theory, classical and quantum statistical mechanics with applications to engineering devices.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Account for the effect of chemical equilibrium and dissociation on reaction thermodynamics and combustion kinetics.
- Determine combustion thermodynamics, such as flame temperature.
- Determine techniques of spectroscopy through application of statistical thermodynamics.
- Identify applications of quantum mechanics to real systems.
- Perform calculations to balance reactions.
- Use software such as EES to perform combustion calculations.
- Utilize statistical thermodynamics to predict properties.
