ME 7450 - Advanced Topics in Numerical Methods


Application of numerical methods for solving ordinary and partial differential equations and eigenvalue problems. Emphasis on problems in thermal and mechanical systems. Finite difference and finite element methods.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Ability to determine the stability and convergence of solution methods for a variety of mechanical systems.
  • Ability to solve eigenvalue problems using power method and inverse power method.
  • Ability to solve ordinary differential equation by Runge-Kutta and multipoint methods.
  • Ability to solve partial differential equations by finite difference and finite element methods.
