MGT 5021 - Management of Lean Six Sigma Programs Organizations are under increasing pressure to be better, faster, and cheaper. This pressure has driven many organizations to adopt process improvement methodologies, like Lean Six Sigma, to increase quality and decrease costs. This course is designed to equip students with the foundation of theoretical knowledge and skills necessary to manage Lean Six Sigma programs. The course integrates basic learning (through readings and lectures) with real world examples. After completing this course, students should understand how to effectively manage and navigate a process improvement program.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to explain the need for process improvement in various industries for cost-containment and quality improvement
- Students will be able to describe the core concepts of Lean Management, which includes waste reduction strategies and just-in-time philosophies
- Students will be able to describe the DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, control) process
- Students will be able to compare Lean and Six Sigma tools for process improvement and value-creation
- Students will be able to describe managerial issues that determine Lean Six Sigma success.
