FAR 5200 - Concepts, Communications, and Considerations in Arts Management Effective communication is vital for the success of arts organizations. Concepts and skills in this course draw from the fields of communications, public relations, cultural policy, marketing, and strategic planning to help students approach communication in ways that build understanding of, and commitment to, organizational mission, strategic initiatives, and fundraising activities. Areas covered include a range of communication across a variety of platforms to develop a strategic plan focused on the organization’s story, building capacity with internal and external stakeholders, and engaging with culturally responsible management practices. This is a required course for all students pursuing the Arts Administration MA degree and the Graduate Certificate in Arts Administration.
Requisites: FAR 5100 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 seminar Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to identify a variety of available channels for communication.
- Students will be able to describe basic principles of public relations management, marketing, branding, and communication.
- Students will be able to formulate comprehensive and effective strategic communication plans.
- Students will be able to demonstrate the skills required to communicate, promote, and implement a communication plan.
- Students will be able to develop communication strategies to build a cohesive vision of the organization’s mission and work collaboratively with a diverse group of clients, donors, policymakers, stakeholders, board members, and community partners.
- Students will be able to recognize and apply culturally responsible management practices.
