AAS 3550 - History of African American Music I, Slavery-1926 Sociohistorical examination of African American music and its role in shaping American music. Recordings and guest lecturers used as integral part of course. Examines spirituals, rural and urban blues, ragtime, and early jazz.
Requisites: One course in Tier II Fine Arts or Humanities Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - To understand the political, economic, and social origins of multiple Black musical cultures.
