EDLE 2520 - Administration of Education in Non-Western Cultures Study of educational administration in non-western cultures. The course focuses on introducing students to non-western cultures with a particular focus on Africa, Asia and Latin America. It seeks to provide the starting point for the development of a more open and diverse view of the development of various approaches to educational thought and practice. The content and activities will help students appreciate the fact that other societies as a consequence of different socio-cultural context posses “ways of knowing” although different, may be every bit as valuable and worthwhile as those to which students are accustomed.
Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,CR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Afford students opportunities of interacting with people, cultures, and ceremonies of non-Western cultures.
- Analyze the differences between informal, non-formal, and formal education settings on non-Western cultures.
- Examine what non-Western cultures are and explore population dynamics of non-Western cultures in the broader global context.
- Explore dominant world views from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Native North America in order to gain an appreciation of different ways of knowing.
- Investigate contemporary challenges facing non-Western cultures in a global context.
