HIST 2950 - Introductory History Seminar This course introduces students to the methods and sources used in the study of history. Students read original sources and historical scholarship on a particular period and theme in history. At the beginning of each meeting, 1-3 students give short presentations on the assigned readings and help lead discussion. This course provides students the chance to interact with each other and their professor in a small class environment. The specific theme, era, and geographical focus vary.
Requisites: Fr or Soph Credit Hours: 3 OHIO BRICKS Bridge: Speaking and Listening Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 seminar Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to identify and explain important examples relevant to historical questions in primary sources (i.e. original documents and artifacts from the time period/place).
- Students will be able to identify and explain the arguments and the use of evidence in secondary sources (i.e. scholarship about history).
- Students will be able to interpret and synthesize information in order to articulate their own position on a historical topic.
- Students will be able to organize credible, relevant, and convincing information (examples from primary documents or secondary sources) that supports the principal ideas of their presentations.
- Students will be able to present about a historical topic in both written and oral presentations by articulating a compelling purpose and using unbiased language appropriate to the topic and audience.
