EQU 1070 - Equine Nutrition Study of the equine digestive system, nutrient requirements of horses at various levels of performance, and problems associated with feeds and feeding practices.
Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Provide students with a thorough knowledge of forage and qualities of hay.
- Provide students with an understanding of what vitamins and minerals are proper for maintaining a healthy horse.
- Students will be familiar with the Henneke scale and what is normal and abnormal for the horse.
- Students will gain experience in ration balancing based on the work-load and age of the horse.
- Students will understand the fiber and protein requirements for horses of all ages.
