HIST 3412X - Islam in Africa Beginning with an overview of processes of Islamization in Africa, the course will focus primarily on the variety of Islamic experiences on the continent, the relationships between Islam and trade, and state formation, questions of race and slavery in African Muslim societies, the African Diaspora in the Middle East and beyond. Other topics include Islam and colonial rule and interactions between Muslims and non-believers.
