THAR 1820 - Music Skills for Musical Theater II This is the second of a two course sequence and continues the study of rhythm, melody, sight-singing, and music notation reading skills, applied to advanced-level musical theater repertoire. Emphasis is on practical skills for the singing actor, and the focus is on skill acquisition through sight-singing of musical theater repertoire and ear training.
Requisites: THAR 1810 Credit Hours: 2 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 4.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to demonstrate music theory applications such as note recognition, interval identification, key signature, and scale degree from advanced-level written sheet music.
- Students will be able to demonstrate rhythm notation identification, perform rhythmic dictation from complex aural examples, and perform written advanced rhythmic patterns accurately.
- Students will be able to, through ear training, identify note recognition, interval identification, key signature, and scale degree from advanced-level aural examples.
- Students will be able to analyze basic harmony within a musical passage by identifying advanced chord structures and elements of music notation from written sheet music.
- Students will be able to perform accurate sight-singing of advanced melody and harmony parts from written sheet music examples from the musical theater repertoire.
