SASM 4140 - The Business of Esports


This course provides students with an overview of the business of esports. This course focuses on the history of video games from creation to the development of the modern, competitive gaming environment.

Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to describe the historical development of video games.
  • Students will be able to discuss the current esports ecosystem.
  • Students will be able to create an esports event.

  • Students will be able to assess the future of esports development, governance, and competition on collegiate campuses.
  • Students will be able to predict future business models of esports as they fit in the sports and entertainment landscape.
