CSD 3500 - Audiology in Healthcare


Provides students with a comprehensive overview of the audiology profession across medical, private practice, educational, and industrial healthcare settings. Includes topics about audiological evaluations of individuals who have normal hearing and who are hard of hearing, hearing conservation techniques, counseling strategies, and inter-professional practice.

Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to describe the audiology profession and its role in health care.
  • Students will be able to list basic audiological evaluation techniques and interpret results.
  • Students will be able to describe anatomical and medical aspects of the human ear.
  • Students will be able to summarize how hearing loss can affect the quality of life of an individual.
  • Students will be able to discuss how effective communication strategies, hearing aids, and other assistive listening technologies can assist individuals with hearing loss.
  • Students will be able to articulate the benefits of hearing conservation techniques.
  • Students will be able to describe basic counseling methods that may benefit people who are hard of hearing.
  • Students will be able to explain how other healthcare professionals work with audiologists and patients.
