Overview

The Department of Human and Consumer Sciences (HCS) offers undergraduate programs in Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Customer Service Leadership, Retail Merchandising and Fashion Product Development, and Restaurant, Hotel, and Tourism.  Minors in Customer Service Leadership and Retail Merchandising and Fashion Product Development are also available.  The degree completion program, Customer Service Leadership is fully online. The undergraduate programs are accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS).

Careers in the Family and Consumer Sciences program include working as a teacher, advocate, or a policy maker. In Retail Merchandising and Fashion Product Development, career opportunities include retail management, buying, product development, merchandising, visual presentation, quality control and wholesale sale, and entrepreneurship.  In the Restaurant, Hotel, and Tourism program, graduates emerge with a broad skill set to successfully manage events, secure managerial positions in hotels, clubs, restaurants, and resorts, work in marketing firms, and lead and direct staff and customers in a variety of hospitality and tourism settings.

The fully on-line Customer Service Leadership bachelor completion program builds upon a student’s conferred associate degree (AA, AS or AAS) or 60 semesters (90 quarter) credit hours from a regionally accredited institution.  Career opportunities include:  billing services, office management, hospitality, retail, health care administration, and online customer service support.

The Department of Human and Consumer Sciences has no particular entry or graduation requirements beyond those of the College and the University. However, requirements differ considerably from program to program. Consult with your adviser to ensure proper fulfillment of those requirements.
