To receive a B.S.Ed. with a major in Middle Childhood Education, you must complete a program of coursework and achieve passing scores on the Praxis II exams prior to licensure. The program includes coursework well distributed over two academic concentrations. Academic concentrations may be chosen in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These will be the two subjects in which you are licensed to teach grades 4-9. Upon completing the program and achieving passing scores on the Praxis II exams, you are eligible for a two-year provisional teaching license for grades 4–9 in those areas.

Middle Childhood Education Requirements

Your program is designed to meet requirements in three areas: General Education, Professional Education, and Content for the Teaching Fields.

One or more of your requirements in Content for the Teaching Fields will also qualify to meet a General Education Tier II requirement.  You may partially satisfy both requirements with a single course.  You are always welcome to meet with an academic advisor for assistance in selecting General Education Tier II courses that also meet requirements in Content in the Teaching Fields.
