This program prepares health professionals for positions in community/public health. A community health educator might be employed at a health department, service organization, volunteer agency, state or federal health agency, or a work place. The goal is to improve the health of their clients/employees and to lower healthcare expenditures. The health educator is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs. In addition to these responsibilities, the health educator is expected to coordinate health programs, as they communicate effectively and serve as a resource in the community. A Bachelor of Science in Health will be awarded to those students completing the prescribed course of study and officially applying for degree conferral.
After the completion of the degree requirements, students are eligible to sit for the National Certified Health Specialist (CHES) examination. Once passed, this certification enables them to work as a Health Educator in a multitude of work settings.

Internship, Practica, Field Experience, Senior Internship Registration Requirements
Generally, the policy on internships, practica, field experiences, and senior internship requires registration for the experience in the quarter(s) that the requirements for the course are actually fulfilled. The only exception to this requirement is an experience that takes place over winter break, in which case registration for the course may occur during either fall or winter quarter. Be sure to work closely with your adviser/program coordinator to ensure proper registration and fulfillment. |
