Program Overview

The two-year associates degree program in nursing combines coursework and clinical experience for preparation for licensure as a registered nurse (RN) once an associate in applied science degree is earned. Students may qualify for admission to the bachelor’s degree program in nursing with an additional two years of study.

Graduates work in a variety of settings, including nursing homes, home health agencies as well as clinics, doctor’s offices, and hospitals once licensed.

Ohio University also has registered nurse programs and advanced placement opportunities for licensed practical nurses (LPNs).
 

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

Students must meet University admission requirements and admission to associate degree nursing program. Admission to the associate degree nursing program is selective.

Change of Program Policy

Selective admission requirements must be met for admission to associate degree nursing program.

External Transfer Admission

Requirements for University admission must be met. Transfer students are evaluated on a case by case basis.
 

Opportunities Upon Graduation

The program is fully approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League of Nursing. After graduation, graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nursing licensure.
 

Requirements

Technical Associate Degree Requirements


The minimum requirement for the Associate in Applied Business (A.A.B.) or the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is the completion of 60 credits with a 2.0 accumulative GPA upon graduation. A maximum of 15 credits earned through the experiential learning may be applied to any technical associate degree. You must earn a minimum of 18 semester credit hours while enrolled at Ohio University, and you must earn a minimum of 50 percent of coursework taken to fulfill your major concentration in residence with resident credit as defined in the Graduation Requirements – Universitywide  section. You also must meet Ohio University General Education requirements for associate degrees. (See Graduation Requirements - Universitywide section)

To earn a technical associate’s degree, you must complete an Application for Update of Program(s), available from any college office or regional campus student services office.

Major Hour Requirements


The associate in nursing major requires a minimum of 74 hours.
