Program Overview: Leading to professional certification in audiology, this four-year clinical program targets four areas of study and training in the first three years: didactic coursework for foundational knowledge and critical-thinking skills in the profession; professional clinical training for the application of knowledge in the classroom; direct patient contact in formal and closely supervised settings; and guided clinical research experiences in areas such as hearing aid technology and benefits, cochlear implants, psychophysics and signal processing, diagnostic audiology, otoacoustic emissions and physiological measures of the auditory system. We offer students access to state-of-the art facilities and equipment, a variety of clinical experiences, and mentored research experiences. The program includes a full-time, twelve month supervised externship in the fourth year.

- Our graduates will be able to function as administrators and advocates for the discipline.
Concentrations: Clinical doctorate in audiology degree applicants who are interested in academic careers and who demonstrate potential for doctoral study may request consideration for admission to the Joint Au.D./Ph.D. program. This program is designed for students who are certain they wish to pursue a Ph.D. and receive the Au.D. degree along the way. Upon completion of the program, the student will have completed the clinical doctorate of audiology and a doctorate of philosophy in hearing science. This allows for maximum efficiency overall and permits the student to pursue research and clinical training simultaneously, rather than sequentially. The purpose of this program is to nurture and guide students with excellent potential while integrating clinical doctorate and doctoral coursework, research and clinical experiences.
Opportunities for Graduates: The clinical doctorate in audiology (Au.D.) degree at Ohio University provides numerous distinctive opportunities including ample and diverse clinical experiences and settings and a nationwide network of clinical externship sites.
