Program Learning Objectives:
- Students will achieve mastery of graduate level concepts in Electrical Engineering, including depth in a chosen concentration, and breadth across the discipline.
- Students will demonstrate mastery of graduate level technical writing and communication.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to apply skills and knowledge in a professional setting.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to build significant Electrical Engineering projects, using computational tools appropriate to the discipline.
Program Overview: Program leading to a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Research in the areas of avionics and navigation, communications and signal processing, controls, electromagnetics, opto- and nano-electronics, industrial controls, and analog and digital circuits. Both thesis and project options are offered.
Opportunities for Graduates: Students with a Master’s degree in EE are generally given more responsibility than those with Bachelor’s degrees in industrial and government laboratory settings. Master’s degree holders may supervise teams and manage projects, and may also work in research and development, along with or supervised by Ph.D. engineers. The Master’s degree is also good preparation for those candidates interested in obtaining Doctoral degrees.

Graduation Requirements:
MS7253 - Athens Campus
Thesis Option: 33 total hours. Students take 2 hours of graduate seminar (EE 6981), 1 hour of Technical Writing Seminar (ET 6020), at least 6 hours of MS Thesis (EE 6950) resulting in a master’s thesis, plus at least 24 hours of graduate-level coursework (as approved by the students graduate committee). Graduate level coursework must include at least 9 hours at 6000-level or above, at least 6 of which must be EE courses. Students must complete an oral presentation of their work to their thesis committee for final approval.
Project Option: 33 total hours. Students take 2 hours of graduate seminar (EE 6981), 1 hour of Technical Writing Seminar (ET 6020), at least 3 hours of MS Project (EE 6943) resulting in a master’s project report, plus at least 27 hours of graduate-level coursework (as approved by the students graduate committee). Graduate level coursework must include at least 12 hours at 6000-level or above, at least 9 of which must be EE courses. The project report is approved by the students’ graduate committee.
MS7272 - Online: 36 total credit hours. Students select from one of six concentrations. All students take 6 hours of required coursework: EMGT 6010 and EE 5003, a set of core courses in their selected track, and they take three additional elective courses from the following list: (EE 5673, 5853, 6743, 6183, 6713, 5143, 5403, 5683, 5713, 6033, 6053, 5183, 5753, 6063, 6083, 6283, and 6103). The six concentrations are:
- General Electrical Engineering: students take EMGT 6010, EE 5003, 5673, 6713, 5143, 5403, 5713, 5183, 6283, plus three additional 3 credit electives from list above.
- Electronic Navigation (E-Nav): students take EMGT 6010, EE 5003, 5673, 5853, 5403, 6033, 6053, 6063, and 6083, plus three additional 3 credit electives from list above.
- Autonomous Unmanned Vehicles (AUV): students take EMGT 6010, EE 5003, 5673, 5853, 5713, 6033, 6053, 6283, 6103 plus three additional 3 credit electives from list above.
- Communications and Digital Signal Processing (Com/DSP): take EMGT 6010, EE 5003, 5673, 6713, 6743, 5403, 5713, 5753, 6283, plus three additional 3 three credit electives from list above.
- Computer Engineering (Comp. Eng.): students take EMGT 6010, EE 5003, 5673, 6183, 6743, 5143, 5683, 5183, 5753, plus three additional 3 credit electives from list above.
- Micro Nano Systems and Devices (MNDS): take EMGT 6010, EE 5003, 5313, 5673, 6183, 5143, 5403, 5683, 5183, plus three additional 3 credit electives from list.
Culminating Experience: Students enrolled in the on-campus program (MS7253) complete either a Master’s thesis or project report as their culminating experience. Students in the online version (MS 7272) complete designated advanced coursework that involves advanced design projects.
Admission Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field is required. Students with degrees from programs that are not accredited by the ABET engineering or computing commissions must submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test. For applicants whose native language is not English, scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are also required. Three letters of recommendations from persons familiar with the applicant’s academic abilities are required. Admission and support (tuition scholarships, research and teaching assistantships) are competitive. Letters of recommendation, undergraduate transcripts, grade point average (GPA), GRE and TOEFL scores are all considered when determining admission and financial support.
