Program Overview: The M.M. in Collaborative Piano is designed for professionally oriented pianists who wish to pursue careers as collaborative artists. It is also for those who wish to use it as a foundation for doctoral study. The goal is to prepare graduate students, both technically and intellectually, for professional careers as accompanists or chamber music performers.

Opportunities for Graduates: The Master of Music degree in Collaborative is designed to prepare graduate students, both technically and intellectually, for professional careers as performers or as artist-teachers; for studio and school music teachers who wish to pursue this curriculum; and for those who wish to use the degree as a foundation for doctoral study.

Graduation Requirements: In addition to University requirements, grade requirements will follow what is outlined by Ohio University’s grading policy, which can be found here: https://www.ohio.edu/policy/12-040.html.  A letter grade of “B” (3.0 GPA) is the minimum grade requirement, though a grade of “C” (2.0 GPA) is the lowest grade (minimally acceptable) at the graduate level.

Culminating Experience: Students in the M.M. Collaborative degree will present a recital in each year of their study. 

Admission Requirements: Acceptance into the Master of Music in Collaborative Piano program is by audition only for all entering students.

  • One (1) major solo piano work performed from memory that demonstrates your technical ability and musicianship.
  • One (1) selection of vocal repertoire. Please prepare your selection in the high key.
  • One (1) movement of instrumental repertoire.
  • Sight-reading of vocal and/or instrumental repertoire.
  • A personal interview of the applicant will be conducted by the faculty in conjunction with the audition.
