Program Overview:  The Master’s in Higher Education (MHE) program is designed for individuals who wish to advance their knowledge and skills while working within higher education settings. The program is offered in a flexible online format. This is a part-time program. Students taking the normal load of two courses per semester complete the program in 1 year and 8 months.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Students will:

    • History, purposes, and contexts of Higher Education
      Higher Education management and leadership
      Organizational perspectives
      Teaching and learning
      Research concepts and methods
  • Translate knowledge into excellent practice

  • Manage and teach ethically

Graduation Requirements:  

Students much complete 34 credit hours of coursework in 10 courses as follows: EDHE 6880, EDHE 7860, EDHE 7850, EDHE 7390, EDHE 7790, EDHE 6940, EDRE 5010, EDHE 7210, EDHE 7920, EDHE 7880.

Culminating Experience:  The capstone experience (Seminar Paper) requires the completion of a literature review on a topic of interest to the student and relevant to the issues, problems, and trends of her/his major area of study. The literature review is accompanied by a related practice-based project. 

Admission Requirements:  A portfolio that includes a goal statement, transcripts of all previous post-secondary coursework, and three letters of recommendation. If undergraduate GPA is < 2.9 (4.0 scale) overall or < 3.25 for the last 90 quarter or equivalent semester hours, applicants must submit scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE); if GPA exceeds these levels, no test scores are required.  Priority consideration is given to applications completed by February 1.

International Students:  This program does not permit full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 cannot be issued based on admission to this program.
