Program Overview: The program focuses on the managerial, planning/leadership, and human relations responsibilities of district leaders. Emphasizing the knowledge, skills, and practices of responsive leadership, the Educational Administration Program fosters a vision of humane, engaging, inviting schools and educational settings. These learning venues provide arenas where various stakeholders including administrators, teachers, students, parents/guardians, community members, researchers and policy makers can work democratically to promote academic excellence, equity and a more knowledgeable citizenry. The program is committed to social justice and promoting an ethic of leadership that is attentive to the human side of educational change. The program provides students with an opportunity to gain substantive knowledge about the operations of a school district. This objective, however, is addressed with consideration that the students are nearly all current school leaders–e.g. principals and the like–with a plethora of other responsibilities. Among other things, a total of 9 in-class sessions are scheduled over the course of the entire program.
The Superintendent Licensure Program includes a balanced approach of on-line and in-class instruction which is coupled with two internships. The program can be completed in three semesters (10 months)
Opportunities for Graduates: The program prepares educators to fill district leadership positions such as Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Curriculum Directors and other central office positions.
