Program Overview:  The Master’s program in Educational Research and Evaluation (EDRE) is intended to prepare graduates for more advanced study of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods and for roles in research organizations.  Students have the flexibility to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of the field of educational research and evaluation. The thirty (30) required hours can be completed by a full-time student within one year.

This major is intended to allow students the flexibility necessary to develop programs that meet their individual needs and interests. In addition to EDRE 5010 – Introduction to Research Methods (unless replaced with an equivalent course) and the Culminating Project, students typically are expected to take the graduate courses developed with their advisor in their Program of Study (POS), but ultimately should develop a program designed to meet their individual goals.

Opportunities for Graduates:  While earning the degree admitted students may have the opportunity to work with faculty or with organizations on campus. After completing the degree, students may find positions as faculty in some institutions of higher education and in research institutes.

Graduation Requirements:  A minimum of 30 semester credit hours of courses (i.e., not including culminating project credits) beyond the bachelor’s degree are required for the M.Ed. in Educational Research and Evaluation. The program of study should be developed in consultation with the student’s advisor and filed with the College before the completion of 20 credit hours.

ALL Master’s students are required to take EDRE 5010 Introduction to Research Methods early in the program and a Culminating Project for 4 credits (either EDRE 6949; Seminar Paper or EDRE 6950: Thesis or an approved equivalent in another program). 

Culminating Experience:  Completion of all course work plus a Thesis or Seminar Paper.

Admission Requirements:  A bachelor’s degree is required for admission to this program. GRE scores are required, with a minimum combined score of 300 recommended. Official transcripts, three written letters of recommendation, and an autobiography and statement of personal goals are all required. International applicants must provide proof of financial responsibility and proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL scores).

International Students:  This program permits full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 may be issued based on admission to this program.
