Program Overview: The K–12 Education Public Policy Leadership Certificate exposes participants to real-world theoretical and practical instruction and experiences in education public policy leadership studies. This 12-credit certificate will run on a January-to-December timeframe and will culminate in a three-day, face-to-face networking residency in Washington, D.C. This experience will enable participants to interface with their peers and key professionals in the public policy arena. Faculty from Ohio University will deliver engaging course sessions with guest lectures from practitioners and leaders in varied aspects of public policy.
This certificate is designed for professionals working in fields that include K12 and/or higher education, school boards, government agencies, education professional associations, non-governmental and civic organizations, foundations, think tanks focused on education issues, legislative affairs, lobbying, and anyone who has an interest in education public policy.
Expected time to completion if studying full-time is one year (three semesters).
Program Learning Outcomes:
- Students develop an awareness about the education public policymaking process.
- Students extend the knowledge base regarding education public policy development, analysis, implementation, evaluation, and advocacy.
- Students demonstrate understandings about education public policy issues.
- Students demonstrate competence in engaging in the public policy arena.
Opportunities for Graduates: Participants will have an understanding of the education public policy making process including education, public policy development, analysis, implementation, evaluation, and advocacy. Participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills that will increase their opportunities for advancement in their organizations and their employability in the education public policy sphere.

Graduation Requirements: This certificate program will run in a cohort model from January - December. The first two semesters (spring, summer) will include three required courses each. The final semester (fall) will include two courses.

- MPA 6001 - Policy Analysis for Education (2 credits)
- EDAD 6002 - Education Public Policy Implementation and Evaluation (2 credits)
- EDAD 6920 - Education Public Policy Practicum and Residency (1 credit)
Financial Aid Eligibility Information: Students enrolled in this certificate are not eligible for federal financial aid.

International Students: This certificate does not permit full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 cannot be issued based on admission to this certificate.
