Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Communication is ideally suited for professionals in a variety of public, non-profit, and private organizations who have positions that emphasize internal and external communication. The major cross-trains individuals in visual, written, and oral communication, emphasizing both practical application and theory-based communication strategy. The major is delivered in a flexible online format, requiring no face-to-face meetings. The major is open to students at any stage of their college career including recent high school graduates and transfer students. Students who have already completed an associate’s degree (60 or more semester hours or 90 or more quarter hours) are also excellent candidates for this degree program. Courses in the major are designed with best practices for online pedagogy, emphasizing the same student enrichment philosophy that grounds other majors in the Scripps College of Communication.
Admissions Information
Freshman/First-Year Admission
Admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Communication program are in line with the regional campuses. Regional campuses have an open admissions policy for high school graduates. Admission is based on an official high school transcript or equivalent.
Change of Program Policy
No selective or limited admission requirements.
External Transfer Admission
Transfer students are reviewed for admission in accordance with University policy. Standardized test scores (Accuplacer, ACT, or SAT) are not required for admission but are required for placement.
