INST 550 - Focus on Malaysia
Introduction to geographical, historical, demographic, cultural, and political settings of Malaysia within the wider context of Southeast Asia. A survey of the historical development of Malaysia with emphasis on the period from the Second World War. The Constitution of the Federation of Malaya 1957 and subsequently the Constitution of Malaysia 1963 are discussed. The course will focus on the National Education Policy, the National Language Policy, the formation of Malaysia, and the New Economics Policy.
