CE 4240 - Strength of Materials II Unsymmetrical bending, shear centers, columns, energy, and continuation of basic topics usually taught in Strength of Materials I.
Requisites: C or better in ET 2220 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will learn about column buckling theory.
- Students will learn about plastic behavior and plastic design method.
- Students will learn how to analyze composite beam problems, using section transformation method.
- Students will learn the concept of unsymmetrical bending.
- Students will review fundamentals of strength of materials.
- Students will understand how curved beams are analyzed.
- Students will understand how energy method can be applied to solve various strength of materials problems.
- Students will understand how to locate shear centers.
- Students will understand stress concentration phenomenon and how it impacts the design process.
