CE 4820 - Paving Materials and Mixtures Types, constituents, chemical behavior, tests, specifications, and uses of bituminous materials, Portland cements, and aggregates in pavements. Design and manufacture of paving mixtures and construction of pavements.
Requisites: CE 3800 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be briefly introduced to advanced testing of paving materials.
- Students will become familiarized with standard test methods that are performed to measure key properties of pavement materials.
- Students will gain understanding of how bituminous materials are utilized in pavement construction.
- Students will gain understanding of how concrete materials are utilized in pavement construction.
- Students will learn different material types used in constructing highway pavements.
- Students will learn how specifications are usually written for the paving materials.
- Students will understand chemical compositions and engineering properties of each pavement material type.
