DANC 4300 - Dance Kinesiology II Develops the concept of fitness in practice and theory as applied to dance. Strength, flexibility, aerobic conditioning, and relaxation as a part of the fitness continuum are explored through a variety of approaches to creating and attaining fitness goals. Helps students develop ability to construct anatomically and physiologically appropriate dance class material supported by knowledge of various somatic practices used as adjunct training disciplines in dance. Will survey somatic disciplines as they apply to dance conditioning and professional training. You will experience a selected range of somatic practices through in-class guided practice.
Requisites: DANC 3300 or 331 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 studio Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will apply current concepts in fitness and conditioning to assessment of efficacy and application of somatic practice to dance.
- Students will critically evaluate the effectiveness of somatic disciplines for various physiological types of dancers through discussion and writing.
- Students will gain understanding of how and when to implement somatic disciplines in their personal movement training.
- Students will understand the basic theory of selected somatic disciplines and their use as adjunct training practices in the field of dance.
