HIST 3232 - History of Brazil Examines the history of Brazil from the colonial period to the late 20th- century, focusing on the role colonization; slavery; race and racism played in the social, political, and cultural formation; and development of the modern Brazilian nation.
Requisites: Soph or Jr or Sr Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to discuss the contributions major scholars in this field have made to the study and understanding of Brazil’s past and present.
- Students will become familiar with the main historical narrative and facts relative to the study of Brazilian history.
- Students will improve their writing and argumentative skills, and learn the conventions and practices of historical writing.
- Students will learn to employ critically primary and secondary sources to develop their own analysis of major topics discussed in the course.
