MATH 3240 - Abstract Algebra An elementary introduction to algebraic structures. Mappings, relations, definitions, and examples of groups, groups of rotations, cyclic groups, Lagrange’s Theorem, fields, polynomials over fields.
Requisites: MATH 3070 and (3200 or 3210) Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students can prove elementary results about algebraic structures.
- Students will develop awareness and appreciation of the axiomatic method as well as familiarity with basic algebraic structures.
