ME 4170 - Design of Thermal Systems Design of systems in which thermodynamics, transport behavior, and optimization techniques are major considerations. Emphasis on total design approach including factors such as cost and reliability. Typical systems include power, propulsion, environmental, and cryogenic. Design project and report required.
Requisites: ME 4210 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. - Ability to formulate a thermal design problem.
- Ability to model and simulate the physical system.
- Ability to optimize the design using calculus methods, search methods, and programming.
