MUS 4250 - Music of Africa Introduction to African music, with particular reference to the organization of music in community life, performance events, performing groups, instrumental resources, and interrelations of music and cognate arts. Aspects of history, sociopolitical organization, religion, customary practices, human mobility, language, and economic activity provide the necessary and wider content for understanding the music, musical instruments, and music makers.
Requisites: Jr or Sr Credit Hours: 2 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to discuss and write about important aspects of African music.
- Students will know the basic characteristics of African music and its relationship to African life.
