DSI 2820 - Interpreting and Transliterating Techniques I Begin the interpreting process while studying various models of interpreting. Takes a theoretical and practical approach to both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting.
Requisites: C or better in DSI 1810 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 laboratory Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Demonstrate English and ASL language competency necessary to interpret in non-technical settings.
- Demonstrate the ability to consecutively interpret unfamiliar texts across a range of settings with a level of accuracy that includes all main points and most details.
- Demonstrate the ability to simultaneously interpret familiar texts across a range of settings with a level of accuracy that includes all main points and some details.
- Discuss the demands in specific interpreting examples.
- Discuss the effectiveness of controls employed in interpreting samples.
- Distinguish the difference between interpretation and transliteration.
- Evaluate his/her own interpretations and identify areas of strength and targets for improvement.
- Explain the interpreting process according to at least one processing model.
- Identify client characteristics (preferred language, etc.) and match them in their interpretations.
- Identify the goal of a setting.
