JOUR 2050 - News and Information Literacy Encourages critical analysis of media content with a focus on news and strategic communication. Examines historical, economic, social, and political contexts of media messages and forms, and introduces theoretical approaches for understanding media effects.
Credit Hours: 3 General Education Code: 2SS Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. - Demonstrate an understanding of aesthetics, codes and conventions of news, and strategic communication forms and content.
- Demonstrate an understanding of concepts and theories in the use of images and information.
- Demonstrate an understanding of ethical debates relevant to the gathering, production, and reception of journalistic and strategic communication content in news and strategic communication.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the economic, social, and political contexts of media production, distribution, and consumption.
- Show an understanding of recent trends in the mass media and strategic communication fields, including media consolidation, technological innovation, and audience consumption.
