INST 2222C - Community-based Research and Service-learning in Ecuador
This class takes place in Ecuador and introduces students to the concept of service-learning within a cross-cultural and community-based context. Students learn about different models and philosophies of service-learning and work collaboratively on community-identified research and service projects in an under-resourced community in Ecuador. Students explore aspects of their cultural identities and Ecuadorian cultures while gaining an understanding of service-learning in local and international contexts. Students engage in critical thinking about cultural identity, community development, power, privilege, and how these themes relate to research and community development within the context of global service-learning as part of a multidisciplinary research initiative.
Requisites: Permission required. Previous volunteer experience recommended
