DANC 2270 - Hip Hop Dance Technique II


This is an advanced Hip Hop course that broadens the application and integration of students¿ technical proficiencies, expressivity, and musicality. The course emphasizes advanced level learning of complex and lengthy movement combinations to employ the polyrhythmic and polycentric nature of the form. Students further develop and express rhythmic and spatial awareness, dynamic range, and stylistic execution of technique. Students readily lead call and respond exercises, create improvisations, and participate in discussions and choreographic studies about the fusion styles of Hip Hop that span historical and contemporary jazz dance.

Requisites: DANC 1270 or permission
Credit Hours: 1.5
Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 3.0 hours.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 studio
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to perform and analyze advanced movements and body articulations in Hip Hop.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate dynamic, whole body alignment of the body.
  • Students will be able to create and perform complex movements.
  • Students will be able to execute advanced Hip Hop movement combinations.
  • Students will be able to develop extended, complex rhythmic movements to music.
  • Students will be able to articulate rhythmic and spatial awareness, dynamic range, and stylistic execution of Hip Hop.
  • Students will be able to discuss the fusion styles of Hip Hop that span historical and contemporary jazz dance.
