Program Overview

The environmental health science program focuses on the public health skills for prevention of disease through the management of water, food, land, chemical, radiation, and other environmental factors. The curriculum offers a solid foundation in physical and biological sciences, plus hands-on experience in the field using modern equipment and techniques to analyze air and water quality, noise and environmental stressors, food quality, and contaminants of all types.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program:

1.  Students will be able to demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills.

2.  Students will be able to perform methods, techniques, and activities at a professional level.

3.  Students will be able to collect data and formulate conclusions, strategies and solutions to professional standards.

4.  Students will be able to describe essential facts of the profession.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Career opportunities in environmental health are diverse and many. Graduates work in industry, corporations, insurance companies, food establishments, research facilities, and governmental agencies. Many find employment in health care settings, including hospitals, laboratories, or public health departments. Still more options exist in the field of education or with public utilities, natural resource departments, consulting firms, and environmental consulting.
