Program Overview
The nutrition science program (premedicine/preprofessional) is for those interested in a career in nutrition, medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and other professions.
To remain active in this program students must:
- maintain overall GPA of 2.0 (C) or better in all hours attempted at Ohio University; and
- earn at least a 2.0 (C) or better in all major and related required courses
To remain active, students must also successfully earn a C (2.0) in all required courses within the retake limit. Additional elective courses may be needed to gain admission into some professional school/graduate programs.
Note: Admission to graduate and professional programs can be very competitive, with most programs requiring a minimum accumulative GPA of 3.0 (B) or higher. Completing the graduation requirements of Ohio University and nutrition program does not guarantee that students will be accepted into post-baccalaureate programs. Students must apply to and be granted acceptance into such programs.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program:
- Students will be able to integrate nutrition-related information and research into nutrition-related practice.
- Students will be able to integrate food-related information and research into food-related practice.
- Students will be able to demonstrate effective written communication through portfolio development for professional level practice.
- Students will be able to develop and implement a nutrition and wellness intervention for individuals/groups, considering the role of environment, food, nutrition, and lifestyle choices on health promotion and disease prevention.

Opportunities Upon Graduation
The nutrition science program (premedicine/preprofessional) is for those interested in a career in nutrition research, medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and other professions. Completion of this program qualifies graduates for admission to related graduate and professional programs. Additional courses may be required for some programs. In addition, graduates can pursue employment in a food and nutrition research setting or related area.
