DSI 1510 - Visual Gestural Communication in ASL Focuses on the language instinct inherent with the deaf community. Gestural communicative techniques examined and applied. Exposure to a variety of home signs and how they have influenced signed languages at large.
Requisites: DSI 1120 Credit Hours: 2 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will demonstrate an understanding the relationship between gestures and classifiers.
- Students will examine how home signs and gestures have influence sign language at large.
- Students will understand simple and complex commands.
- Students will understand the difference between pantomiming and gestures.
- Students will use gestures to describe objects, people, sports, and cultural events.
