DSI 2150 - Fingerspelling and the Interpreter


Explores both expressive and receptive aspects of fingerspelling in a communicative context. Appropriate usage of such things as lexical signs, abbreviations, and the grammatical importance of fingerspelling discussed.

Requisites: DSI 2120
Credit Hours: 1
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will apply context clues to better understand fingerspelled words.
  • Students will be able to fingerspell using appropriate ergonomic techniques.
  • Students will improve expressive and receptive skills of fingerspelling and lexical signs.
  • Students will improve fingerspelling clarity and speed.
  • Students will understand the cognitive process used when producing and comprehending fingerspelled words or phrases.
