ECEE 2001 - Sophomore Clinical Practice


This course supports the clinical experience in an early childhood setting focusing on preschool and provides an opportunity to learn from both theory and direct interactions with children. Students observe and participate in the classroom while learning developmentally appropriate practice.

Requisites: Teacher Candidacy and admission to Early Childhood and Elementary Education program or Child Development major or Child & Family Studies major or Family & Consumer Science major
Credit Hours: 1
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 clinical, 1.0 seminar
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,CR,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to discriminate between characteristics of the various developmental stages and abilities of young children.
  • Students will be able to use both appropriate and empowering language with young children including language for behavior management and problem solving skills.
  • Students will be able to apply knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practice through interactions and activities with young children.
  • Students will be able to recall, describe, and explain the activities and experiences of young children using observation techniques.
  • Students will be able to describe their own development as a teacher of young children and be able to identify abilities and skills for improvement.
