DANC 2250 - African Dance Technique II Traditional dances of Africa. Students will learn to recognize movements, rhythms, songs, instruments, and paraphernalia by country and selected ethnic groups through a practical and theoretical approach. Will explore intermediate African dance movements coming from ceremonial dances, focusing on facial expressions, meaning, and execution of movement. Six different dance types from 6 different ethnic groups will be learned.
Requisites: DANC 1250 and dance major or minor Credit Hours: 1.5 Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 3.0 hours. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 studio Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will demonstrate correct posture and movement qualities.
- Students will develop a balanced theoretical and practical understanding of specific African dances.
- Students will experience African dance in relation to its traditional rhythms and songs.
