HIST 3866 - Afghan Wars Examines the history of strategic rivalry in Afghanistan and the borderlands of Central, South, and West Asia. Topics include the geopolitical setting and premodern precedents of contemporary policy; Britain’s Afghan Wars and the Great Game of empire in Asia; the interests and influences of Pakistan, Iran, India, and China; the Soviet war of the 1980s and its consequences; and developments since 2001.
