MUS 3770 - Jazz Improvisation I Learning and applying through improvisation the Ionian, Dorian, and Mixolydian modes, the ii-V7-I progression, and culminating with a final project utilizing the song form.
Requisites: C or better in MUS 1020 Credit Hours: 1 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will demonstrate improvisations on selected examples of those standards.
- Students will learn basic cadential progressions in all keys and the melodic patterns belonging to them.
- Students will learn basic song form and a selection of standards that utilize the form.
- Students will learn diatonic modes in all transpositions and play melodic patterns in those modes.
- Students will learn the 12-bar blues progression and demonstrate improvisations.
