MUS 4071 - Counterpoint II Analysis and composition of early 18th-century contrapuntal forms, mostly in the style of Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries.
Requisites: MUS 2020 and 2040 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will learn the principles of two-voice counterpoint in a tonal idiom.
- Students will write a 3- or 4-voice fugue in the style of J. S. Bach.
- Students will write a brief example of a choral fugue, setting a short sacred text.
- Students will write a stylistically effective invention for keyboard in the style of J. S. Bach.
- Students will write effective imitative tonal counterpoint in 3 and 4 voices.
