T3 4362 - Examining Internet Myths Examines the phenomenon of myth-making on the Internet and how the viral nature of the medium allows information to spread and gain credibility with very little substance or sourcing. A look at how the “urban legend” goes digital.
Requisites: 3 Hours Tier II Social Sciences and 3 hours Humanities and Literature and Sr only Credit Hours: 3 General Education Code (students who entered prior to Fall 2021-22): 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. - Demonstrate an understanding of the history and role of professionals and institutions in shaping internet messages.
- Think critically, creatively and independently.
- Understand the diversity of peoples and cultures, and how that diversity impacts the understanding and credibility of viral messages.
- Understand the impact of social networking sites in the spread of information, even when that information has little to no basis in truth.
