MUS 1009 - Theory Fundamentals for Music Majors This course will cover clef reading, rhythmic notation, meter, scales, key signatures, intervals, and triads at a level of depth and fluency expected of music majors. Basic functional keyboard skills will be introduced.
Requisites: Music major and appropriate score on the theory placement exam. Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to fluently identify and write all intervals, with an emphasis on diatonic intervals.
- Students will be able to fluently identify and write all triads.
- Students will be able to read and write all major and minor key signatures.
- Students will be able to fluently read and write all major and minor scales.
- Students will be able to fluently read bass and treble clef.
- Students will be able to realize at the keyboard all concepts listed above.
- Students will be able to use rhythmic notation correctly in the context of a given time signature.
