ART 3730 - Anatomical Drawing and Figure Drawing


Anatomical Drawing and Figure Drawing is an introduction and overview of the technical aspects of figure drawing. Students use both analogue and digital anatomical illustration practices to explore ways that these techniques can be applied to artmaking as well as to scientific research.

Requisites: (JUNIOR or SENIOR) and (BIOS 1030 or BIOS 1300 or BIOS 1710) and (ART 1111 or ART 1121 or ART 1200 or ART 1220)
Credit Hours: 4
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 4.0 studio
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to accurately render either full or partial sections of the human form in traditional drawing media from observations of the human body in space, cast forms and 2-D images..
  • Students will be able to digitally recreate a variety of human-based forms using effective 2D modeling techniques in digital media.
  • Students will be able to generate figure drawings based on an understanding of the structures that make up the human form.
  • Students will be able to describe and discuss their artwork using the proper anatomical and artmaking terms.
  • Students will be able to create anatomical and figure drawings for scientific applications.
